Book Description
This edition makes substantial changes to the original version of the textbook. Topics have been combined or expanded to fit the learning objectives for ENG106 at Linn-Benton Community College. Other revisions included updating links to the texts of poems and replacing images. Overall, the textbook takes a mostly formal perspective on poetry, examining key components of poetry, focusing primarily on the dominant form of accentual-syllabic poetry in English from around 1400 CE into the early 20th Century. The textbook seeks to introduce students to key poetic stanza patterns, figural language, sensory language, and sonic effects such as rhyme and alliteration.
