9.1 Chapter Overview and Learning Objectives

The period of middle childhood includes significant changes in physical and sexual development. From ages 6–12, children get taller, gain weight and develop muscle mass, lose their baby teeth and begin to experience changes related to puberty. In this chapter, we will learn about the major physical changes of this period in child development as well as continue our understanding of how sexual development evolves as we grow and change.
