1 Non-verbal Communication Part 1

We will watch part of a college communication class presentation about non-verbal communication.

Try to catch the main ideas, important details, and organization of the information in notes.

You can write them by hand, or type them if you are very fast. The important thing is to:

  • catch important information
  • write with short phrases or symbols and abbreviations (not full sentences)
  • use some kind of organization to make the notes easy to follow (for example, write the ideas in a list)

For this first part you only need to watch 11 minutes of the video — you don’t need to finish the whole thing.

Share your notes with your teacher by email or phone.

Preview and Predict: Questions

Take a look at these questions. What do you think the professor will talk about?

And, what do you know about these topics?

1.What does the term “oculesics” refer to?
2.How does the speaker say we can win an argument?
3.What does the term “haptics” refer to?
4.Why do we use haptics?
5.What is “vocalics” or “paralanguage?”

Watch: 11 minutes of this presentation

After you watch

  1. Look at your notes. Did you get the important information?
    1. You can finish your notes or watch this again to fill in any missing information.
    2. For today’s class, please do not use subtitles (CC) or slow down the video 😇
    3. But, in the future, we can do both of these things.
  2. Take a picture of your notes and email or text it to your teacher.
  3. Use your notes and what you remember to answer these questions about the presentation. You don’t need to send the answers, but we will talk about them in class!
