The Pros of Being a College Athlete

  • Provides discipline for those students who use inappropriate behavior in class and on campus
  • Getting to know more people at each student event
  • Becoming close with professors as you may have to miss a class and make up assignments
  • Your teammates and coach(es) become another family
  • Financial Aid
  • Staying active and healthy
  • Looks great on job resumes

The Cons of Being a Student Athlete

  • Missing class for games
  • Getting behind on schoolwork if not using time management
  • Not getting the amount of study time needed
  • Always having a risk of being injured
  • Not getting the full 8 hours of sleep needed at bedtime, so you nap throughout the day when you should be focusing on school related items
  • Most student athletes will become more dedicated to their sports rather than their schoolwork

How to Time Manage Yourself

Criteria for Managing Your Time: Prioritize your to do list, make sure you get enough rest, try to avoid multi-tasking, turn off your cellphone during study periods, Use a planner to schedule yourself, Get an early start on assignments, Use your phone to set alarms
