Mental health wellness is very underrepresented and ignored in our culture. The vast majority of college students say they feel they don’t have enough time and are very stressed. There are simple techniques students can incorporate into their daily routine to manage stress and submit projects before their deadlines. First, students should carry a planner they can write project details in, as well as their class schedule for the semester. This will help the student to remember when projects are due. Students should also use this planner to decide which assignments they need to work on now and which can wait. Prioritization is an important skill in college life.

Another healthy tip to manage stress is to consider adopting a new hobby. This can help you take your mind off schoolwork when needed. Some examples of hobbies include sewing, quilting, video games, painting, or drawing. A video game you could consider playing is the Sims 4. It is very useful for taking your mind off things when you need a break because there is so much to do in the game. If you would like to begin drawing or painting, consider purchasing a sketchbook to carry with you through the day. If you are feeling stressed, just sketch something, anything you would like, and it will help you relax. If none of these interests you, you could also join a club at college.

A third healthy tip is to try eating healthier. This will support better brain function and decrease chances of exhaustion, giving you smoother studying and learning capabilities. Remember to drink plenty of water. It will prevent you from getting dehydrated and it works better than sugary drinks. Also limit your sugar intake. Consuming large amounts of sugar can cause your body to crash when the sugar rush dies down. Foods containing sugar include sodas, most candies, most sweet foods, pastries, cereals, and coffee creamers. It is also a good idea to get plenty of exercise. People who exercise regularly feel more energized

It is important to get plenty of sleep while going to college. Taking naps does not completely make up for the lost amount of sleep. It is recommended to get at least eight hours of sleep to prevent exhaustion. Getting adequate sleep every night helps students to become more engaged in class and pay more attention. Limiting caffeine intake can help you get more adequate rest. If you drink coffee, do not drink caffeinated coffee during the evenings, try decaf instead. The effects of caffeine can last for at least eight hours. Don’t drink caffeinated coffee after noon. Also limit foods containing caffeine such as chocolates, sodas, ice cream and pudding. Another tip is to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every night. This will help your body develop an internal schedule and you will even begin to wake up on your own without the help of your alarm clock.

Consider taking vitamins. They can help you get nutrition in the areas you lack it in. If you’re not sure which ones you need, just get an all-around daily vitamin.
