Y2 Unit 8.2: Third Pass: H5P Development
In Year 1, Unit 9, you started drafting H5P in the {Course #} H5P Questions document. In this pass, you’ll return to this document and revise your H5P.
We use Google Docs to draft H5P so that authors can easily change wording, try out different ideas, and cut what you don’t want. This format will also allow our copy editors to provide feedback and comments.
Use the {Course #} H5P Questions document for formatting all H5P True/False and Multiple Choice questions. This is so all interactives can be automatically uploaded into Pressbooks. After drafting all questions, make sure to format the question title, question type, question, answer options, and 255-word answer feedback using our template. In the H5P examples that follow, you can develop familiarity with the required parts of each interactive.
As a reminder, each chapter will have at least 3 accessible H5P questions.
Step 1: Review Drafted H5P
To start the third pass through your chapters, review the H5P that you have already drafted. Compare the existing questions to the major concepts that are central to your chapter’s learning objectives. Assess whether the questions still address the core concepts, and if so, whether they can be improved now that you have gotten some distance – and made some revisions – since they were first drafted.
Scan these chapter elements to choose 3 concepts that are equity-related, complex, and significant to the goals of the textbook:
- Chapter Learning Objectives
- Key Terms
- Section Headings.
Use the {Course #} H5P Questions document to make notes on where you want to change whole questions or revise existing ones. You aren’t making the changes yet.
Step 2: Meet with the Project Manager
Meet with the Project Manager to fill in the Year 2 Action Plan tab of the {Course #} Deliverables for Open Curriculum Development Model spreadsheet. At this meeting, you’ll define goals for this pass through your chapters.
This month-long pass includes your review, your meeting with the Project Manager, and your completion of deliverables, so plan accordingly. Prioritize 1-3 goals to accomplish during this month.
The Project Manager may recommend that you meet with other team members for help with this pass. The Instructional Designer is especially helpful with writing and revising H5P. Budget in the time it takes to connect with support roles and receive their input.
Step 3: Revise H5P
You are done planning and ready to edit your H5P. Please read the next sections in this unit to review our expectations for including at least 3 accessible H5P questions per chapter.
