Support Role 1.1: Project Manager Role and Responsibilities
The Project Manager oversees development of openly licensed open textbooks and associated course packs for up to 4 courses. The Project Manager plays an integral role in supporting project team members at each stage of the Open Curriculum Development Project described in this Pressbook. As Project Manager you are a recruiter, coach, cheerleader, advocate, and closer. Through regularly scheduled meetings, you help team members and other stakeholders follow the project’s criteria for success, stay within scope, and meet their deadlines.
This is a full-time, salaried position at Linn-Benton Community College that reports to the Statewide Open Education Program Director.
Please read Unit 0 for an introduction to the entire project. The Project Manager needs to be familiar with the entire Open Curriculum Development Project training (this Pressbook) in order to successfully manage the projects and support all participants.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate project partners and participants to ensure progress and completion of on-time deliverables, including but not limited to:
- Creating openly licensed textbooks
- Course pilot onboarding, delivery, review and revision
- Peer and Workforce Advisory Board review
- Media development projects
- Copyediting and proofreading
- Formatting to Pressbooks
- Marketing.
- Apply flexibility, resourcefulness, and creative approaches to unique problems with an understanding of statewide context.
- Work with the Statewide Open Education Program Director and other project team members to finalize and share out project deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and policies of Linn-Benton Community College, Open Oregon Educational Resources, and external funders (if applicable).
- Recommend to the Statewide Open Education Program Director improvements, efficiencies, and efforts that contribute to the goals of grants; assist with implementation and assessment of improvements.
Project Management
- Manage deliverables, meetings, and to-do lists in the {Course #} Deliverables for Open Curriculum Development Project [Google Sheet] spreadsheet for each textbook development.
- Collaborate with the Instructional Designer to manage deliverables for each course pack development.
- Connect project participants to training materials and support roles.
- Meet with author teams regularly via Zoom and provide 1:1 support as needed to support prioritization of work, staying in scope, implementation of feedback, and overall alignment with project goals.
- Provide status updates to the support team and Statewide Open Education Program Director.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with the Statewide Open Education Program Director on project status and issues.
- Collaborate with the Statewide Open Education Program Director and Program Assistant on budgets, contracts, and invoicing processes.
- Prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion in decision-making and communication; contribute to a welcoming and inclusive work culture.
- Lead and participate in meetings with grant stakeholders to manage development, implementation, and evaluation activities.
- Maintain productive working relationships with project partners and participants.
- Consult with project partners and participants as needed to communicate updates, encourage, solve problems, and reflect on processes.
- Follow house style, such as spelling out words rather than using acronyms, always cc’ing point people, using schedule send if you email outside of 8-6, staying friendly and polite, and responding to email by the next business day if possible.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare internal and external reports.
- Collaborate with the Statewide Open Education Program Director and other project team members to evaluate and report on project impact.
- Document and organize information on Google Drive.
- Maintain project management tool to track timelines and deliverables.
- Disseminate grant outcomes and progress updates.
