Overview

Welcome to Year 2 of the Open Curriculum Development Project! We are so glad that you are here! This is an informational unit for everyone:

  • If you are heading into your second year of the project, please read this unit in order to refresh your memory on the key concepts we’re going to return to this year.
  • If you are new to the project, please read this unit in order to understand our approach to creating open content with an equity lens.

Please start by reading, or re-reading, Unit 0 to learn or review how this project works. We are not going to send you back to any other Year 1 materials – Year 2 is self-contained.

During Year 1, author teams outlined, drafted, and revised textbook manuscripts. Now it’s time to gather feedback by sending the manuscripts out for review and piloting the books with students. Authors are filling in gaps, but they’re also taking breaks from active writing this year.

Meanwhile, pilot instructors are gearing up to design and teach courses with those textbook manuscripts. Some pilot instructors are brand-new to this project, and some are authors who have been here for a year already.

Because of the multiplication of roles and backgrounds in the project, Year 2 of this project is a taco bar year. In this unit, we’ll show you how to browse the ingredients so that you have just what you need on your plate.

After this unit, we’ll head off in different directions to start working:

  • Pilot Instructors continue to Units 2-5.
  • Authors jump to Units 6-9.
  • Authors who are also piloting a course will complete both Units 2-5 and Units 6-9, on a timeline determined by when they are assigned to teach their course.
