Y2 Unit 6.1: Learning Objectives and Overview

Learning Objectives

  1. Distinguish Revising Author responsibilities from Original Author responsibilities.
  2. Develop a revision timeline in order to facilitate a smooth handoff to Revising Authors.
  3. Assess your revising mindset as you begin the 4 passes of the Textbook Manuscript Cleanup.
  4. Create new content as needed in your first pass, making at least 3 concepts per chapter more relevant, accessible, and manageable for students.

Overview

While your book is being piloted and peer reviewed, there is still work for the original author team to do so that your manuscript will be in the best possible shape when you hand it off to the Revising Author and Early Adoption Instructors in Year 3. Follow our workflow to make four separate passes through your chapters to work on content gaps; multimedia figures; H5P questions; and licenses, attributions, and references sections. We refer to this process as textbook manuscript cleanup.

Many authors will also be Pilot Instructors this year. If so, you’ll work with the Project Manager to make sure that your responsibilities as an author can feasibly fit into your teaching schedule. You’ll also work with your Instructional Designer to complete the Course Design Accelerator in Units 2-5.

If you’re not teaching this year, or if you’re at the point in your Year 2 timeline for authoring work, then Units 6-9 are your pathway through Year 2. Let’s get started!
