Y2 Unit 9.5: Citation Review
In Year 1, Unit 8, we covered the reference list section of your chapter. You checked in with your team about which citation and reference list style you will use consistently for the entire book. Now it’s time to check your work. This short section provides all the information you need to complete Step 3.
Citation Cross-Check
Use Control-F to cross-check your in-text citations against your reference list entries.
Each in-text citation must have a corresponding reference list entry. If the reference list entry is missing, add it now. If the in-text citation and reference list entry are inconsistent (for example, if one lists an organizational author and the other lists a person’s name), go back to the source to find the correct information and make your citations consistent.
Each reference list entry must have a corresponding in-text citation. If you find reference list entries without in-text citations, either look for a place to add an in-text citation or delete the entry.
Reference Lists
Follow the citation format that your author team agreed to use. There are good online citation guides and citation generators for the major styles.
Arrange your references alphabetically.
Each entry should be one continuous paragraph. It’s OK if the paragraphs don’t have a hanging indent because we will apply that style when we import your manuscript into Pressbooks. Please do not hand-format hanging indents with the enter key and space bar – this creates more work for the leadership team later when we undo your hand formatting.
