Support Role 6.1: Media Developer Role and Responsibilities
Media Developers collaborate with authors and instructors to create textbook and course content for the Open Curriculum Development Project. Please read Unit 0 for an introduction to the entire project.
Open Oregon Educational Resources maintains a pool of contacts that we can reach out to when we need to create multimedia content, such as charts, graphics, photos, videos, animations, and so on. Videographers, video editors, graphic designers, artists, and anyone interested in content creation are encouraged to join the pool. Funding is available to compensate creators for their work.
We are especially interested in including people in Oregon; with a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion; students and early-career professionals are welcome. Individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives are strongly encouraged to join.
Content creators will retain their copyright but will share their work with an open license.
The Media Developer collaborates with the Project Manager and members of the author team to develop the needed content for textbooks:
- Author identifies media development need and takes notes in the Media Requests tab of the {Course #} Deliverables for Open Curriculum Development Model spreadsheet.
- Project Manager reaches out to a Media Developer on the contact list whose skills align with the work needed.
- Author, Project Manager, and Media Developer meet to clarify the project, including goals, scope, budget, design, and deliverables. After the meeting the Project Manager will have the information needed to create a Media Development Statement of Work [Google Doc] and contract with the Media Developer.
- The Media Developer follows the agreed-upon timeline to receive feedback on a draft and complete a final project.
Media developed for the Open Curriculum Development Project must meet the following standards:
- Accessible
- Openly licensed
- Shared with the project team
Each of these requirements is explained in the following sections.
