Support Role 7.1: Revising Author Role and Responsibilities

In the first two years of this project, a multi-author team drafted and revised a textbook manuscript with the support of the project team. The textbook was piloted with students and the manuscript was externally reviewed. In the third and final year of this project, the Revising Author completes the manuscript by prioritizing actions that will bring the draft into its final version for launch. This role may be held by two Co-Revising Authors. Please read Unit 0 for an introduction to the entire project.

The Revising Author has three priorities:

  1. Use feedback gathered in Year 2 to advance the vision expressed in the {Course #} About This Book document.
  2. Ensure overall consistency and coherence of the manuscript as a whole, within and between chapters.
  3. Maintain alignment, including between curriculum learning outcomes, chapter learning objectives, key terms, H5P, attribution statements, etc.

The Revising Author receives a stipend of $6000 to:

  • Coordinate timeline, expectations, and benchmarks with members of the support team.
  • Communicate with the support team, including regular reporting on the project status and asking for help when needed.
  • Work in Google Docs.
  • Maintain a focus on the Open Curriculum Development Project’s Textbook Criteria for Success.
  • Develop an action plan for revising the text and course materials based on feedback from students, course pilot instructors, and external reviewers, in collaboration with the Developmental Editor and Project Manager.
  • Revise the manuscript according to the revision plan, including but not limited to rewriting content, deleting content, incorporating others’ content, ensuring a cohesive structure and writing tone, making content accessible, writing/correcting attributions and citations, completing a final manuscript checklist, and resolving copyedits.
