Equity Consultant
The Equity Consultant supports all project team members in making considerations of equity, diversity, and inclusion a priority at every step of the Open Curriculum Development Project. Please read Unit 0 for an introduction to the entire project.
The Equity Consultant will collaborate with the Project Manager, the Instructional Designer, and other project participants to assist with project design, and will provide recommendations and feedback on the materials developed. We value the equity framework that you bring to the project, as well as your perspective on how an equity consultant fits into the project itself.
The Equity Consultant receives a stipend of $10,000 per year for three years to support development of 4 textbook manuscripts and 24 course pilots. This support includes:

- Meet regularly with leadership team, author teams, course pilot instructors, workforce advisory board, and other project roles.

Project Timeline
The sections below highlight activities that the Equity Consultant participates in during different phases of the project. Overall project timelines are included in Unit 0.
Year 0
In Year 0, you will consult with the project leadership team as needed to prepare for a strong start. You will support the team to operationalize the project’s Equity Statement during recruitment and onboarding.
Year 1
In Year 1, you will support author teams drafting high-quality open textbooks with an equity lens by recommending specific ways that teams can meet the project’s textbook criteria for success. You will participate in project-level and author team meetings as well as 1:1 consultations via email and Zoom. Areas of support will include feedback on project-level equity statements, textbook outlines, chapter drafts, word lists, multimedia, and other learning objects. Additional areas of support will include onboarding Workforce Advisory Board members.
In particular, during Year 1, Unit 5, you will receive a roundup of emails from each author responding to prompts encouraging reflection about culturally responsive moves in their About This Book document. The Equity Consultant can respond to individual emails, but will also use the email to prepare for a presentation to authors in a project level meeting, and will use the information to inform feedback on About This Book documents.
Year 2
In Year 2, you will continue to support author teams on textbook development. You will also support course pilot instructors designing courses that adopt our textbooks by recommending specific ways that they can meet the project’s course design criteria for success.
Year 3
In Year 3, you will support the Developmental Editor as they create a {Course #} Revision Recommendations document for Revising Authors to implement external stakeholder feedback. You may review feedback or chapter drafts and recommend specific ways that Revising Authors can meet the project’s textbook criteria for success. You will also support Revising Authors via email and Zoom as they prepare manuscripts for launch.
