Y1 Unit 6.1: Learning Objectives and Overview

Learning Objectives

  1. Determine a realistic timeline and weekly goals for chapter drafting.
  2. Review your outline and 2-4 openly licensed sources from your background scan to start drafting a chapter.
  3. Develop Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies to support chapter development.

Overview

In Unit 5, you developed your chapter outline, assessed ideas for culturally responsive teaching, and prepared for outside peer reviewers. During this unit – the last unit of the Textbook Accelerator – the Lead Author finalizes your {Course #} About This Book document before we send it out for review. In this unit we’ll also start discussing what’s next – drafting chapters of your textbook.

…BUT WAIT, there are plenty of reasons why you are not ready to start writing – including not having preliminary review feedback yet. We know, and that’s OK! There will always be new things to learn about your project that you’ll incorporate into revisions. There are many opportunities to revise and rewrite, and we have an ambitious timeline, so this is the right moment to start writing.

This unit has the information you need to get started writing chapters, including advice for all authors, an introduction to how we’ll write with equity in mind, and the logistics of exactly how you will use your outline and background scan to start your chapter drafts. In the next unit, we’ll start our first month-long unit of chapter writing, so read on to understand how we’ll approach this major task.
