Chapter 10 Learning Activities

The purpose of these activities is to help you reflect on and improve your overall well-being—both mentally and physically—while also increasing your awareness of safety and support resources available to you. By actively engaging in these activities, you will be better prepared to manage stress, make informed health decisions, and create safer environments for yourself in both academic and professional settings. These activities will help students meet the following learning objectives:

LO1. Identify sources of stress that will create barriers to your academic and career success.

LO2. Identify resources available on and off campus for victims of crime.

LO3. Develop a plan for protecting and promoting your mental and physical health.

LO4. Conduct a personal safety assessment of campus and a career workplace.


Activity 10.1 Stressors in Your Life

Complete the following survey to understand the stress you are currently experiencing.

  • What are some actions you can take to help you cope with these stressors?

Activity 10.2 Safety Resources

[Instructors: Tailor this activity to specific safety courses and/or resources that are most common at your institution. I have included the tools that are most common at my institution below as an example.]
Review [your school]’s Campus Security site for important safety information
  • What is the number to reach campus security?
  • What are the 4 main services campus security performs?
  • What should you do if you have an emergency?

Activity 10.3 Mental and Physical Health Care Plan

Below you will create a care plan to protect your mental health.
Circle of CareList the people in your life who you can turn to and who can turn to you. How much support can they offer you?What types of support?
Emotional Self CareList 3 practices you can follow in to engage in self-care. Some examples may be journaling, meditating, exercise, listening to music, etc. Activities that will help relieve your stress and improve your mood.
Physical Self CareList 3 practices you can follow to engage in physical self-care

Activity 10.4 Campus Safety Assessment

Address the following questions about the [your institution] campus:
  • How is the college creating a safe environment for all faculty, staff, and students?
  • What communication procedures are in place for emergencies?
  • How do students learn about safety on campus?
  • What measures are in place for protecting students who live off-campus?
  • To what degree do alcohol and drug abuse pose issues on campus? How are violations handled?

Activity 10.5 Workplace Safety Assessment

Address the following questions about a former, current, or future workplace:
  • How is the workplace creating a safe environment for employees?
  • What communication procedures are in place for emergencies?
  • How do employees learn about safety at work?
