3 Oregon robot is the fastest robot to run on two legs

Robots are fun. Robots are helpful. Now robots are fast, too.

Scientists at Oregon State University invented a new robot. Its name is Cassie. It set a world record.

Cassie ran 100 meters in 24.73 seconds. And it didn’t fall! Cassie is now the fastest robot with two legs. (The record for a human is 9.58 seconds.)

Cassie has knees. They bend backwards like an ostrich. Knees help Cassie to keep its balance.

Stopping and starting were difficult. Cassie trained for one year. That means scientists tried different things. They wanted to increase its speed. Now Cassie can run like a person.
