Chapter 6: Perception

Can you remember a time when you felt it was important for you to make a positive first impression? What about a time when someone made a positive first impression on you? First impressions are important aspects of how we perceive others and how others perceive us.

In this chapter you will learn about the process of perception. We will discuss the major steps involved with perceiving the world around us, how culture and personality influence our perceptions, the different types of attributions we make about ourselves and others, and how we can improve our perceptions about ourselves and others. This will provide you with appropriate strategies to more accurately perceive yourself and others.
