Exercise 1.1 Draw a Duck

Let’s start with some drawings to see where your current drawing skills are at. This is to help determine how well you improve over the course.

Materials needed:

  • pencil – HB
  • eraser – white
  • paper – 1/4 of a page in your sketch book; section off one of your sketch book pages into quadrants, using one quadrant each for the four exercises in chapter 1

Time to complete: 15 minutes

Instructions:

Here is your opportunity to draw the duck talked about in the introduction. Draw the duck without looking at one. Do it from memory. Draw the duck based on the instructions within the introduction which states “draw a duck from the side, swimming in water, and make it as realistic as possible.” Remember to fill a 1/4 of a page of your sketch book with your duck. The other three areas of your sketch book will be for other drawings. You do not want a lot of unused space around the duck. Use the full 15 minutes to draw the duck, including as much detail as possible.
