Exercise 1.4 Self Portrait

Materials needed:

  • pencil – HB
  • eraser – white
  • paper – 1/4 of a page in your sketch book

Time to complete: 30 minutes

Instructions:

Draw yourself facing straight ahead, as well as you can. Make sure you are looking forward and not to the side. Also, try to have a neutral look on your face without smiling. I would recommend using a mirror. You can also take a photo of yourself with your phone or a camera. However, the curvature of the camera lens may effect your image. Also, your chin or forehead will look larger if the camera is positioned too high or low. Try to fill the area with your drawing and not leave much unused space. Use the full 30 minutes to draw your self portrait, including as much detail as possible.
